Kobus Mulder, Manager: Dairy of Agri-Expo (middle) was inducted as an Officier together with two Japanese and six French cheese lovers. The solemn ceremony was handled by the current Grand Commander M. Christian Room (right) and witnessed by 150 cheese lovers from all over the world. The first South African, and only the second from Africa, was recently inducted into the Confrèrie des Chevaliers du Taste-Fromage de France in Paris. The Confrèrie is an exclusive group of French cheese enthusiasts working in the cheese industry and who has been active as a brotherhood since the Middle Ages. The purpose of the Confrèrie, who was formalised in 1954, is to promote French AOC (L'Appellation d'origine contrôlée) cheeses and to grow the spirit of making and enjoying artisan cheeses. Members are elected as knights, officers or commanders while the grand commander fills the most senior position. Inductions take place once a year in Paris and the most recent ceremony took place on 4 March 2007 in the impressive Restaurant La Tables des Crayères that is situated in the old chalk mine of Paris.
